02.24.12

So I went on a little adventure…

Yeah, yeah I know… I didn’t manage to watch the episode live, but instead of watching Fringe, I was AT the Fringe set, so that still KIND of counts, right?

I got downtown around 4:30, and they were scheduled to start filming at 5:30, so obviously I had a bit of waiting to do… A friend of mine from school, Arianne (ariannerobbins) also came down to watch. They were running a bit behind so they didn’t actually start filming until around 7:00 (I know…) Nadine (@naddycat) also came down to watch the filming. We walked over into the plaza, and they were still setting up, so we decided to go get something warm to drink, because it was raining and it was cold (as always… It’s Vancouver. I wouldn’t expect anything less.) When we got back to the set, I recognized a family friend of mine —> Okay, so here’s THAT story… My mom and dad had apparently known this guy for a LONG time, and they found out a while ago that he works on the show. So every time I went they told me to look for him, but I always forgot. But fortunately this time I remembered, and yeah… Back to the real story —> I said, “Hi, are you so-and-so?” He said yes and then I told him who I was and because my mom had e-mailed his wife on Facebook not too long ago, he knew I watched the show and came to set sometimes. He said how the last time he saw me was when I was little and that I’d grown up so much (that’s what all family friends do… :P) We talked about the show, and also I don’t know how many of you know this about me, but I’ve always been very intrigued and into the whole process of TV/Film/Theatre production. In school, I take NUMEROUS theatre classes, even one that I love a lot that is specifically theatre tech (lights/sound/stage managing). I asked him about the similarities between some of film/tv tech and theatre tech, and he explained some of those aspects to me. Also, because I’m still pretty young, there’s not much I can really do at the moment to be involved in real productions, so background work (being an extra) is the only thing that I’ve been able to do. Fortunately, the family friend knew I’d wanted to get into this kind of work, mostly just starting out as a PA to see what I liked, so he explained to me the things I would need to do and also he said he could get the ALM to talk to me because she knew more about it than he did (that’ll come up closer to the end…) Anyway, he needed to get back to work at that time, so he asked us if we were sticking around, and we said yes, so he said we’d talk to him later. I don’t know if I should say you exactly was on set that day, but giving the photos and you’re reading this, you probably already know. It was Jared Harris and also Lance Reddick whom with we did not get a photo because he left pretty early on in the shoot. We were just watching them film, and my brother decided to come down as well.

Some other random stuff happened, but that is so irrelevant and I simply don’t have the time… ;) Nadine had left for a bit, but when she came back she brought Bella (her dog) who is always a HUGE hit with the crew (and when I say huge, I mean she has a fan club bigger than Justin Bieber’s…) While the crew was ogling at Bella, we were just waiting for the moment when Jared had a spare minute, because he was so rare to see on set, we just HAD to talk to him. One of the Observers (not September, but if anyone knows which one this is, I’d be appreciated if you could help me out!) was just walking around, so we asked him if we could get a picture with him. He was more than happy too, and it was funny because we ALL wanted a picture, so he just kept having to pose. He was really nice about it though.

It was getting pretty late (around 10:00ish) and they were starting to set up for another shot on the street, so when Jared Harris walked by, we politely asked him if we could get a photo. He said sure, although he seemed eager to get back to set (LoL) But he was still nice about it, surprisingly. We didn’t chat long because he obviously wanted to go home, I mean, it was pretty cold! After that he left and most everyone (fans) left and we (my brother, Nadine and I) were going to walk down to the street where they were filming the next scene when our family friend came up to us with the ALM. He introduced us and we introduced ourselves and he said she could explain some of it to us. She explained what requirements were needed and she explained to us about the DGC (Director’s Guild of Canada). It was very helpful information and then she said that being a PA you don’t really need any pre-requisites, basically for job experience, but you’d need to take some courses to be able to move up. She gave us her number so that we could call and leave our numbers, and she said she’d call if she needed any PA’s. We thanked her and we walked back down to the street. (Also, if you didn’t catch that, we just gave our numbers to the ALM of FRINGE… And she said she’d call if she needed any PA’s… Meaning I could potentially get work on the show… *ensue mini freakout*) The filming on the street didn’t take long, just a taxi pulling up. There were some guest actors there, but I none of us knew who they were, so we’ll just wait and see when the episode airs.

And then we left and that’s all folks. Also they were filming episode 19. I know this encounter wasn’t very “squeal worthy” for you folks, but I had a good time. Hope you enjoyed the read if you made it this far. Adios.

#reblogging myself because I forgot to add that apparently they’ll be filming A LOT in downtown Vancouver over the next few weeks, so expect more of these (hopefully).

I love how in “serious” forums, websites and blogs, they are all “I love this episode, well done, great special effects and acting, it felt like home, great case of the week, no Lincoln and all the others reasons of the world”

Please bitch, confess, you’re all flailing about this too
